Having watched the Australian Story about the Port Arthur Massacre you are now going to put yourself in the shoes of the victims.
In Victoria, victims of violent crime are given the opportunity to make an official statement to the court about how a crime has affected their lives.
Your task is to write a Victim Impact Statement.
You can choose to write your Victim Impact Statement from the point of view of any of the three types of Victims.
Primary Victim - A person that is killed or injured: as a direct result of an act of violence, in the act of arresting someone, trying to stop a crime or coming to the aid of a victim.
Secondary Victim - A person that is injured as a direct result of witnessing an act or the parent or guardian of a child who is the victim of an act of violence.
Related Victim - A person who at the time of the crime is a close family member, the dependent of the victim or in an intimate personal relationship with the primary victim.
Use Nichole Miller's Victim Impact Statement on page 154-155 of your textbook as an example.
